In 1998, upon His arrival to Atlanta, his Eminence Metropolitan Alexios prayerfully conceived The Archangel Michael Feast as the annual double feast of the Metropolis family. Every year the Metropolis family comes together in Atlanta on the weekend of, prior to, or following the November 8th Feast of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel. It is to honor and celebrate their Patron Saint Archangel Michael and the lives of Parish members, who exemplify the true Orthodox Christian way of life by their deep faith, commitment, dedication and service to the Church and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on their respective Parish level. By extension, this special Metropolis feast is also the annual Metropolis celebration and thanks giving for all devout stewards of faith, time and talent, “Who first give themselves to the Lord by the will of God.”

Each Parish/Cathedral will annually select one member of the youth and one adult to receive the Archangel Michael Honors. The Parish Priest following his consultations with each of the following groups chooses honorees: the Parish Council, the Philoptochos, and the Youth Groups. Youth is defined as a parishioner as young as Junior High (7th grade) to the maximum Y.A.M. (Youth Adult Ministry) age of 35 years. Adult is defined as a parishioner from 21 years of age and up.

The honorees chosen attended and received their honors at the annual banquet held at the Metropolis in Atlanta.

The honorees from Saint Katherine chosen by Father Demetri in consultation with the Parish Council, the Philoptochos and youth groups, to be the recipients of the Archangel Michael Award for 2012 are Costas Triantafyllidis & Devin Reeves. They have both truly exemplified the “good and faithful steward” our Lord calls us all to be.
